Dulux Trade helps holiday apartments retain that period look
As more and more people opt for something out of the ordinary for their holidays, alternative forms of accommodation are becoming increasingly popular. This is particularly true in Norfolk, one of the UK's favourite holiday destinations.
With this in mind local businessman, Matthew Monk hired Darren Honour, a Dulux Trade Select Decorator, to set about converting three former cattle barns into 12 luxury holiday apartments. Their aim was to maintain the authentic rustic charm of the original buildings while creating interiors with that real 'wow' factor.
Matthew explains: "The barns consisted of three separate buildings surrounding an archetypical rural courtyard; a set up we were convinced would be extremely attractive to tourists visiting the area and a genuine alternative to some of the luxurious hotels we would be competing with. We needed the interiors to have that five star feel while the exteriors needed to resemble the original barns. Dulux Trade was able to help us achieve both.
A combination of Dulux Trade products was incorporated to meet the brief. Darren used Dulux Trade Diamond Matt for the interior whilst Dulux Trade Weathershield Woodstain AP and Weathershield Opaque AP were used for the exterior.
Available in over 12,000 colours, Dulux Trade Diamond Matt is an extremely tough and washable matt emulsion that uses Dulux Trade Diamond Technology, specifically formulated to make it ten times more durable than vinyl silks. It is resistant to many common stains and will wipe clean without losing its attractive matt finish, making it ideal for use in high traffic areas, such as hotels and holiday homes.
Stephanie Brown, Brand Manager for the Dulux Trade Diamond range added: "Barn conversions can be difficult projects to undertake, particularly when the converted barns are to be used by the general public. The benefit of the Diamond Matt range, in addition to the extensive range of colours available to choose from, is the extended redecoration cycle, typically lasting five years as opposed to the two to three years of other paints. Surfaces look better for longer, saving the owners time and money and ensuring interiors look their best for longer."
Weathershield Woodstain AP is a high performance solvent-based exterior woodstain, which produces a water repellent, semi transparent, satin finish which allows the grain to show through. It is suitable for use on both soft and hard woods and the unique advanced protection technology means exterior joinery is not only protected from extreme weather for six years, but also looks better for longer.
Weathershield Opaque AP retains all the high performance qualities of Weathershield Woodstain AP, producing a water repellent, satin finish in a solid colour. The highly flexible paint like finish resists peeling, flaking or blistering and allows the true texture of the wood to show through.
