Unrivalled environmental credentials secure social housing
In March 2008, North West based architects, Denovo Design, began the task of replacing a run-down development of Victorian terraced houses in Ashton-under-Lyne with high quality, affordable and energy efficient social housing.
When the time came to specify a paint solution suitable for use on all the interior walls and ceilings of the 43 new houses and bungalows, Denovo Design turned to the experts at Dulux Trade for the solution, which lay with its environmentally sustainable range of paints, Ecosure Matt.
The Dulux Trade Ecosure range of paints was developed in conjunction with leading independent experts Forum for the Future, and helps specifiers meet environmental objectives. The water-based paint delivers genuine sustainability improvements, while maintaining the highest performance standards when it comes to durability, opacity and colour clarity.
The embodied carbon in Ecosure Matt, for example, is proven to have been reduced by 25 per cent compared with Dulux Trade standard Vinyl Matt formulation*. In addition, Ecosure Matt. offers a 49 per cent reduction in volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and all Ecosure paint cans are made of a minimum of 25 per cent recycled material.

Such was the success of this project that the development has been awarded a Green Apple for the Built Environment Award 2009, and is also shortlisted for the Housing Excellence Awards 2009 in the 'Best Affordable Housing Scheme of the Year' category.
