North West Architectural Practice, Denovo Design, is celebrating after winning its third International Green Apple Award this year, this time for Environmental Best Practice as a result of incorporating groundbreaking environmental products, such as the Dulux Trade Ecosure range of paint, into its schemes.

Denovo Design's projects comprise high quality, affordable and energy efficient social housing and were praised at the Green Apple Awards for their environmental and sustainable features, which even extended to Denovo Design's paint choice of Dulux Trade Ecosure.
This is the third Green Organisation award that Denovo Design has secured this year, on the back of two Gold International Awards for the Built Environment presented at the Tower of London in June.
One of the Gold awards was for its work at an Ashton housing development for West Pennine Housing Association, part of the Regenda Group; this is the second year in a row Denovo Design have picked up the sought-after accolade for this project alone. The other Gold was for a sustainable housing scheme in Aveling Drive, Banks for Cosmopolitan Housing Association.
The team specified the leading environmentally sustainable paint solution, Dulux Trade Ecosure Matt, for all the interior walls and ceilings of the 43 new houses and bungalows at Ashton, 20 new dwellings at Aveling Drive, and the Irene Kennedy Centre at the Wirral Ark Hostel for the Homeless. The Dulux Trade Ecosure range of paints was developed in conjunction with independent sustainability experts Forum for the Future, and its impact on the environment has been identified and subsequently minimised using a unique environmental impact analyser.
Dulux Trade Ecosure is a water-based range of paints that delivers genuine sustainability improvements, while maintaining the highest performance standards when it comes to durability, opacity and colour clarity.
The embodied carbon in Ecosure Matt, for example, is proven to have been reduced by 35 per cent compared with Dulux Trade standard Vinyl Matt formulation*, and contains virtually no VOCs. In addition, Ecosure paint cans are made of a minimum of 25 per cent recycled material.
The level of the latest award, for the Irene Kennedy Centre, will be revealed in a prestigious ceremony at the House of Commons in November, hosted by the Green Organisation. The scheme incorporated an array of environmental products and technologies, including a flowering sedum roof, which provides an ideal habitat for the two beehives from the Cheshire Beekeepers Association.
The Green Apple Awards are now in their sixteenth year and in 2010 attracted more than 500 nominations. They are organised by The Green Organisation, an independent, non-political, non-activist, non-profit environmental group dedicated to recognising, rewarding and promoting environmental best practice around the world.
Following its environmental awards successes, Denovo Design has also been invited to join the National Green Heroes, an elite group of environmental achievers who use their experience to help thousands of others.
Frank Olchowski, Director of Denovo Design, concludes: "The aim of the team at Denovo Design was to incorporate as many sustainable products as possible into the construction and interior of the new buildings, and we specified Ecosure from Dulux Trade because of its unrivalled environmental credentials. These continuing awards successes prove that it's worth taking the time to specify sensitively and sustainably."
