Brunel car park is being redecorated through a joint initiative by Slough Borough Council, Thames Valley Police and The Probation Service. ICI Paints has supplied Dulux Trade Anti-Graffiti and Dulux Trade Pyroshield paints for the project, which will see the car park transformed from a grey and miserable area into a bright and inviting space where local residents and visitors can park their cars safely.
Areas painted using the Dulux Trade Anti-Graffiti system resist permanent marking from acts of vandalism. Any marks need only be washed away using an Anti-Graffiti Remover, rather than the surface needing to be re-painted. The system allows property managers to keep on top of maintenance without having to spend large sums on constant redecoration.
In addition, Pyroshield upgrades previously painted surfaces to Class 1 or Class 0, delaying the initial stages of flame spread when vehicle owners may still be making their way to safety. The flame retardant coating system is water-based, quick drying and low odour and it's free from hazardous materials.
Kam Bhatti, Community Safety Project Officer for Slough Borough Council said, "With ICI Paints' help we have been able to considerably improve the surroundings of what should be one of Slough's main car parking facilities, but one that has been avoided by motorists for some time. "By using specialist products from the Dulux Trade range we've not only transformed the aesthetics of the car park but also restored the original coating's Class 0 rating, and ensured we can keep on top of maintenance more cost effectively in the future. It's certainly 'win win' all round."
The six-month project will see participants in the Thames Valley Police Probation Area Community Payback Project work on the redecoration, with the aim of teaching them valuable new skills. The project forms part of the offenders' Unpaid Work scheme and with some of the participants having been involved in vehicle crime, the project is a fitting way for them to give something back to the local community.
