A period finish from Dulux Trade

The Dulux Trade Heritage colour range has been used throughout the redevelopment of Southampton's Imperial Hotel into luxury homes, to create both interior and exterior colour schemes in keeping with the architecture of the Grade II listed building.

Originally built as the Imperial Hotel in 1865, the building is an important historical landmark in the old dockland area of Southampton. In 1912 many wealthy people stayed at the hotel before embarking on the ill-fated voyage of the Titanic. The building has since been converted into 86 luxury apartments which are now managed by Peverel OM Limited, with Dulux Trade Heritage colours specified in a variety of interior and exterior finishes throughout.

"We used Dulux Trade because it is a sign of quality and assurance for the residents," said Andrew Billson, Director at Peverel OM Limited, the property management company overseeing the redecoration contract. "We have tried to retain the original refurbishment colour scheme where possible and the Heritage range gave us access to traditional colours, in high performing finishes."

Contractors, Formation Management, used a combination of Heritage Classic Whites and Regency Grey from the Georgian palette on ceilings, panel mouldings, door frames, and decorative mouldings throughout the communal areas. The broad wall areas were painted in Foyer Green, from the Edwardian & Art Deco Era palette, all in Dulux Trade Diamond Matt finish.

This was chosen as it is ten times tougher than traditional vinyl matts and so offered a finish that was durable, but still in line with a traditional low sheen look, ideal for higher traffic areas such as these communal spaces.

For the exteriors, DP Brunswick Green in Dulux Trade Weathershield Smooth Masonry paint was chosen, complemented by Candle Cream, also from the Heritage range, in a Weathershield Exterior Gloss, on the windows and door frames.

The Heritage range is a collection of 120 accurate period colours from defining eras in British history, available in modern day finishes. The range allows specifiers to use characteristically subtle and muted shades to form complementary designs or to create historically accurate schemes.
