Dulux Trade treats woodcare as an art form

Most people associate the art world with 'traditional' oil paints and water colours. However, the celebrated installation artist, Richard Woods, famous for his large-scale architectural manipulations as well as hand-printed, wood-cut floors and elevations, has been relying on Dulux Trade to bring his creations to life.

Richard is currently exhibiting a selection of his works at Milton Keynes Gallery and has incorporated Diamond Glaze from Dulux Trade into some of his pieces. The product, with a clear satin finish, has specifically been chosen for its qualities which give a protective coat to the floor without detracting from the artwork.

Richard explains: "Many of my artworks have an interactive element to them and we encourage visitors to the gallery to walk over them in order to appreciate the full effect. Thousands of people passing through the gallery every week can take its toll though and therefore I needed a durable product that would protect the work without detracting from the design.

"In the past I have requested Diamond Glaze from Dulux Trade to achieve both the look and durability I aim for because I know I can rely on it. It has again proved ideal for the exhibition in Milton Keynes."

Diamond Glaze from Dulux Trade is a water-based, maximum durability interior wood varnish, which incorporates Dulux Diamond Technology to make it up to ten times tougher than conventional floor varnish. It is a simple, one pack system, ideal for use on wooden floors and other high wear interior wood surfaces, just like Richard's installations. Available in clear gloss and satin as well as 44 satin colours, it is quick drying and suitable for use over cork tiles, hardboard and chipboard surfaces as well.

Emma MacLellan, Head of Development at Milton Keynes Gallery, added: "Richard's work has been installed in an impressive array of places, from British stately homes to Venetian court yards, private residences and boutiques in New York and we are delighted to have him exhibiting here in Milton Keynes. It is the interaction with his work, the ability to walk on top of the pieces, that gives viewers the true impact of each piece and, with the help of Dulux Trade, we can keep the work protected and looking its best for the length of the exhibition and beyond."

Richard Bradley, Marketing Manager for the Dulux Trade Woodcare range commented: "Richard's work is well renowned in the art world and it's great that Diamond Glaze is associated with such a high profile artist and exhibition. It really shows the strengths of the product and the benefits it has to more everyday users looking for the best possible durability from an interior woodcare solution."

Richard Woods: Flora & Fauna continues at Milton Keynes Gallery until 21 September 2008. Admission is free. Further details are available at www.mk-g.org.
