Dulux trade is a winner for Nottingham racecourse
Colour advice from Dulux Trade has helped Nottingham Racecourse to create a bright new look that meets the duties of the DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) requirements and Approved Document Part M of the Building Regulations.
One of the requirements of Part M is that critical surfaces, such as walls, door frames and hand rails, should be contrasted visually to ensure people with visual impairment can clearly identify them. The course management knew that they would have to redecorate to meet these obligations, but also saw it as an opportunity to create a new upbeat look for the venue.
Whittle Painting, a Dulux Trade Contract Partner, has been providing a planned maintenance painting service to the course since 2000, and was asked to come up with some ideas. The contractor enlisted the help of a Dulux Trade colour consultant, who took digital photos of the various rooms and utilised the Dulux Trade Previews service to produce a visual representation of what alternative colour schemes could look like.
As Andrew Simpson of Whittle Painting explains, “To make it easier to distinguish different surfaces they need to be painted in bold and contrasting colours, but if you are not careful the result can end up looking like a nursery. So we asked Dulux Trade for help.
“They got their colour consultant involved and came up with a scheme that ran throughout the venue, which our customer really liked. In the bar areas, for example, the whole feel of the space was uplifted by replacing dark mahogany coloured panels with a light scumbled beech effect finish”.
The overall result was a coherent flow of colour through the various areas of the Grandstand, Centenary Stand and Summer Pavilion and a scheme that fully met the requirements of Part M.
