Dulux Trade ensures a royal welcome at court
Dulux Trade products have been used throughout The Royal Court Development for the States of Guernsey. Hirst Conservation carried out extensive architectural research to understand the building's historic colour schemes and Dulux Trade has been specified to guarantee the highest quality finish is achieved.
The site, in St Peter Port, is being developed to provide modern accommodation for the administration of justice in the Bailiwick and involves a mix of refurbishment and new build. A year ago the 17m extension was completed allowing the 2m restoration of the original building to take place during 2006. Painting contractor, Ounsworth Decor Ltd, has used Dulux Trade primers and decorative finishes throughout the project.
"We recommended Dulux Trade because of the quality of the products," said Mac Galllienne, Ounsworth Decor Ltd. "The Royal Court is the most important civic building in Guernsey and we knew with Dulux Trade we could achieve the quality finish required."
For the renovation work, Dulux Trade Stainblock Plus was used to block stains caused by previous water damage to the interior walls and create a well-primed surface for painting.
Hirst Conservation was employed by the contractors C A Duquemin Ltd to carry out the architectural paint research. The research allowed the architect Anthony Clerici to use new colours that complement the original 1803 building and late Victorian extensions. Clerici Design advised on suitable colour schemes and Dulux Trade Flat Matt and Eggshell were used on interior walls and woodwork in the selected shades, to give a rich and luxurious feel.
A spectacular glass lantern which illuminates the dome above the main Royal Court staircase is one of the notable features of the building. Dulux Trade Flat Matt has been used in a grayish yellow toned green and a blue reminiscent of ancient celadon ceramics, on the panels surrounding the dome, flooding the staircase with light and colour.
