Dulux Trade passes university challenge

The University of Warwick is recognised as one of the UK's leading universities. Famous for its innovations and links to both business and public sector policy makers, it is currently working to a strategy which will place it among the top 50 world universities by 2015. Part of the attraction of the campus, which is situated on the south west edge the city of Coventry, is its attractive grounds, excellent teaching facilities and high quality student residencies.

Gavin Cumberland, Head of Property Services, says: "16,500 students and 5,168 members of staff attend the University every day during term time and we currently receive about ten applications per place at the university, so demand is high. However, maintaining that demand is down to more than just the academic departments. The standard of accommodation for undergraduates is part of the whole package that the University of Warwick offers and the halls of residence need to be just as well regarded as the faculties. Part of this is making sure our student accommodation is second to none and Dulux Trade has helped us achieve this."

Working in partnership with Dulux Trade, the University of Warwick has embarked on a five year programme of maintenance and renovation, with new contractors tendering each year for the latest phase. Throughout the programme, the University will be specifying a range of Dulux Trade products to suit all the various applications.

Dulux Trade Eggshell has been chosen for use in over 750 on-campus apartments, as well as all stairwells, corridors and communal areas in student accommodation buildings. Dulux Trade Eggshell is a high quality paint ideal for use in most interior applications, including plaster, wood, masonry and metal surfaces, where a durable, mid-sheen finish is required. It is resistant to the levels of atmospheric humidity present in normal interior environments and heat up to 90C.

For ceilings, the University has stipulated the use of Dulux Trade Vinyl Matt, a top quality, high opacity emulsion which gives excellent coverage and application. It is suitable for all interior wall and ceiling surfaces and will again tolerate normal levels of humidity.

Dulux Trade High Gloss has been specified for use on doors, door frames and skirtings throughout the University. Dulux Trade High Gloss is a paint which protects interior and exterior surfaces where a durable, high-gloss finish is required.

Finally, for all bathroom ceilings in the University residences, Mouldshield Fungicidal Matt from Dulux Trade has been specified. It contains a special fungicide which inhibits the growth of fungi and mould inside buildings. This broad spectrum of antifungal activity makes it ideal for most interior walls and ceilings, such as bathrooms and kitchens, which are likely to be disfigured by mould. It is water-based and will remain resistant to moderate washing.

Commenting on the package provided, Chris Walker, Specifier Account Manager for Dulux Trade, said: "The five year programme we are involved with at the University of Warwick demonstrates not only the partnership approach we like to take with our customers, but also highlights how we can work with them to provide a whole suite of products to match all their needs.

"The University of Warwick is a prestigious project for us, and it is fantastic to be so involved with an award-winning campus."
