Coatings from the Dulux Trade Weathershield range have been put to the test in a project that needs the strongest protection against some of the most extreme conditions in the UK.

Positioned right on the Cornish coast in Falmouth, Admirals Quay is a high-end development made up of 20 flats and eight houses. Although situated in one of the country's most picturesque spots, the environment is especially challenging. Gales, salt water spray, bright sunlight and sea algae are all factors that the buildings have to withstand throughout the year.
In order to manage the maintenance of the properties and keep them looking pristine, some of the owners set up the Admirals Quay Management Company Ltd. The board has split the site into four manageable zones and each year, one of the sections gets a facelift.
The committee always appoints an accredited Dulux Select Decorator to carry out the work, as it gives them the reassurance that the professional has the skills and knowledge to appreciate the unusual nature of the job. Over the last four years, Admirals Quay Management Company Ltd has chosen St Ives decorator, Kevin Nankervis, who worked alongside Dulux Trade Specification Account Manager, Steve Oakley, to carry out the project.
Discussing the works at Admirals Quay, Steve said: "I visited Admirals Quay and could see first-hand how luxurious the properties are - but also how exposed the area is to the elements. We needed a solution that would be hard-wearing, durable and aesthetically pleasing - and Weathershield was the clear choice. Even against wind, rain and sun, the range offers up to ten years' protection. As the work doesn't need to be touched up as often, it helps to reduce long-term maintenance costs and minimises disruption for residents and holidaymakers."
Decorator Kevin Nankervis began by cleaning all of the outdoor walls, doors and windows with Weathershield Fungicidal Wash. As well as removing algae and other sea residue, the product helps to deter any future growth. This was then followed by Weathershield Maximum Exposure and Weathershield Exterior High Gloss, which are renowned for delivering outstanding performance.
"Weathershield was the ideal range for the Admirals Quay project," commented Kevin. "As the products are very flexible, they don't go brittle and crack in strong sunlight. Instead, they expand and contract as the temperature rises and cools. The environment in this particular area can be quite unforgiving, but Weathershield is definitely tough enough to withstand it. As a decorator, it's good to use such a superior product because you know your work will stay looking first rate for many years to come."
John Williams lives in one of the properties and is also one of four directors of the Admirals Quay Management Company Ltd. He said: "We live in the most beautiful part of the UK, but the environment can be aggressive. All of the home owners here take great pride in the buildings and it's important for us to keep them looking pristine. We've used Weathershield products and Dulux Select Decorators for the last 12 years, and have never been disappointed. The combination of premium products and excellent workmanship means we can be assured that our development will continue to look immaculate well into the future."
