Weathershield Naked Wood (BP) Basecoat is a water-based timber preservative for use on new and bare wood, providing excellent protection against decay and blue stain fungi. It produces a sound base for Weathershield Naked Wood. Up to 4-5m² per litre per coat; depending on the porosity of wood (2 even coats).

System information

Weathershield Naked Wood Basecoat (BP) is only for use on bare wood. Ensure surfaces are clean, dry and free from any surface coatings.

Mix thoroughly by shaking the container before use. Pour out a sufficient amount of basecoat for the job into a suitable container. Do not thin. Ensure surface is clean, dry and free from any surface coating, mould or algae before use. Use Weathershield Multi-Surface Fungicidal Wash* where appropriate.

Apply two coats of Weathershield Naked Wood Basecoat (BP)

Weathershield Naked Wood Basecoat (BP) is only for application to bare wood. If spot priming is required during redecoration apply to bare surfaces and wipe off excess from sound surrounding Weathershield Naked Wood top coat.

Use pre-treated timber for in ground contact situations.

When fully dry, finish with 2-3 coats of Weathershield Naked Wood. To achieve full protection, the complete system including Weathershield Naked Wood Basecoat (BP) is required. Wood is a natural substrate and performance varies on different types of wood (and even on different planks of the same wood). The climate, aspect and details of the site will also affect performance. A guide to expected performance is given in the Weathershield Naked Wood Datasheet DT622.

Please Note:

The Weathershield Naked Wood system will reduce wood greying for up to 4 years, although after significant exposure periods some red coloured timbers such as Western Red Cedar will show some fading of its natural colour.
