How to make sustainable choices
Use durable high quality paint
This will have obvious benefits, such as longer term cost savings, as well as being more sustainable. Furthermore, using products such as the Dulux Trade Weathershield and Dulux Trade Diamond ranges can increase the amount of time a building can be left between maintenance cycles. This will ultimately have less impact on the environment by reducing elements such as the environmental impact of decoration (vans, travel etc), left over paint and waste packaging as well as the paint itself.
Buy water-based paint
Specifying water-based alternatives to solvent-based products can help minimise the environmental impact of the coating. Water-based products have a lower carbon footprint due to the replacement of oil-based solvents with water. ICI have offered high performance water-based alternatives to all major products for many years. Of particular note are: Dulux Trade Ecosure Gloss and Undercoat (as an alternative for Dulux Trade High Gloss and Undercoat) and Dulux Trade Diamond Satinwood (as an alternative for Dulux Trade Satinwood).
Buy only what you need
This will clearly, save costs but, most importantly, the waste packaging and left over paint will be significantly reduced, thus limiting the overall adverse effects on the environment.
